"Guilty In The First Degree"

VERSE 1  -  I knew from the start, that it wasn't right
but I kept on pushing ahead into the night
I was scared to admit my mistake, because I knew what was at stake
and now that it's happened, I can see that I went much too far
and that makes me Guilty, yes

VERSE 2  -  Now has it always been this way
where relationships are just complex games
and the rules for you and me, they seem way out of reach
We start out with chess and then we move on to dice
we go for the long shot without ever thinking twice
if poker's the game I better get out while I still can
and that makes me

CHORUS  -    Guilty in the first degree
guilty in the first degree
guilty............ of running away

BRIDGE  -    Now my years are going on twenty nine
and I know that's not a long long time
but it's long enough to see a little of what's going on
There's a war that's raging inside my heart
a desire to finish before I start
anxiety has been tearing me apart

VERSE 3  -  I've written songs that said that I would run to you
but I did not mean myself
I've written songs that said I would die for you
but I'm speaking of somebody else
And that somebody else is much stronger than me
and that somebody else is inside of me
and that somebody else asked me never again to leave
oh, but somehow I've ended up  (CHORUS)

Frazier Riddell - Canton Ms Native.  Mississippi original music song writer schooled in Oxford Ms at Ole Miss, that being the University of Mississippi.  Graduated in 1984,  John F. Riddell, owner of small town music, singer song writer, writing songs from personal experiences in the south, and hoping to change things not only in the south, but the world, finally made it back to Oxford in 2010 to sing on the Thacker Mountain Radio program.  Smiles of the heart were huge, when Frazier met Jim Dees for the manieth (not knowing that though & thought it would be 1st) time.  Jim was a mainstay at the HOKA.  Riddell spent lot's of time at the Hoka in the early 1980's.  It was a blast that night, as Riddell billed the show along with Cindy Wolff and her friends Big John on upright bass guitar and Emily Bakker on baritone ukelele.  After Thacker, those 3 and Riddell performed on the square in Oxford to a fine enthusiastic crowd at Roosters Blues House.  If you go to look up Cindy, remember the spelling.  I always want to put Wolf or Wolff instead of Woolf.
