OK, Slowly but surely, my inventory of instruments on this page will
dwindleto very little and even nothing as I move items to my EBAYSTORE.
For now it is the practical thing for me (as a solo operation)to
do. Less editing (especially after the fact) and more
versatility. For now though, you will still find some items on
this page that havenot made the transition.
Saxophones
<<< ALTO SAXOPHONES >>>
VINTAGE
BUNDY ALTO SAXOPHONE / GOLD FLECK FINISH - #519643 /
nice horn in good playing shape / i'de say playing about 7 out of 10 /
it's playing from hi F to low Bb and not to bad / 7 is conservative /
finish is fair about 70% intact / some coloration from pitting but very
little finish gone / may need maitenance down the road but i'm not
changing anything yet / neck cork is fair but you never know / it could
go bad with 10 uses / right now it's marked with a pen when the
mouthpiece (original included) is pushed to / someone was atleast
trying to play this horn in standard tuning / i have not field tested
this piece but i just finished playing it in the store (5-24-03) and it
plays just as i described / i ran chromatic scale and then also played
bits and pieces of songs / nothing is presently sticking and the lowest
notes play relatively (about "mf") well / the alternate high F i had
some trouble with but i've had the same trouble on other saxes / i had
to stop and focus afirmer embrocure to get the note out / standard hi F
was fine / nice duel handle case / corner was seperating in one area so
i have reinforced it with a corner brace to avoid further damage /
all hinges and latches in greatshape / as is / $250 ( in case pic - right side of sax pic

ON HOLD
CONN SHOOTING STAR
ALTO SAXOPHONE - serial number N74xxx made in Mexico /
dated circa ???? / fine condition / for a horn it's age it looks really
good / the is some finish tarnishing or spots in the laquer in places
but overall very nice / i'd call it about 7 out of 10 for looks / maybe
8 out of 10 for playing / playing from low Bb to high F / needs some
adjusting (pad seating mostly) to play more freely in the bottom 3
notes ( LISTEN TO MP3 OF THIS
SAX 02/2003 ) / missing the lyre holder screw and besides
that all intact and again, veryclean overall / includes conn precision
mouthpiece and conn gray case / $350 ( in

misiing from the neck octave key padthis baby is playing from top to
bottom / the low Bb key looks like it'snot seating perfectly but it
sure is playing! ( LISTEN TO
A RECORDING OF THIS SAXOPHONE 03/02/03 ) / i would call this
horn an "8 to 9" out of 10 / exceptionally clean for it's age?? / i am
trying to find info on the age but i'm having very little luck / so far
i've got that this horn may have been made by buescher / by the looks
of horn and case combined i'd guess this horn is very late 60's or 70's
/ if so, again, very clean for such a horn / springs nice and firm /
good action / a little tarnish/oxidation around afew of thetone holes /

VINTAGE HOLTON COLLEGIATE
ALTO SAXOPHONE - made by "Holton Elkhorn Wis. / USA" /
serial #85048 with 566 stamped above serial # / no field test on this
one but just played it in store / the upper pad that goes down when
playing middle or upper B & C was going down and not wanting to
come up / i think the culprit is lack of use / i just key oiled the 3
joints connected with this and it's now springing back / this
horn is playing from to F to low Bb and pretty darn good / i'de call it
about 8 out of 10 / nice action from low Bb to low B / pretty easy
in my opinion / alternate F as usual giving me problems / seems like
tenor is much easier for me on the alt F than on any alto/ the key is
functioning correctly / i'de call finish about 75% and it looks pretty
nice / there is a fair amount of pitting on the keys and some onthe
body also but the overall appearance has pretty good shine! / case
isthe old slanted style / compartment intact / latches & hinges
functionalbut one latch does not 'spring' open / there is a body
stopper piece (white)/ the lyre screw is missing / the neck cork looks
kinda ugly but seem verysecure so i'm leaving it for now / nice

VINTAGE
"USA" by YORK ALTO SAXOPHONE
-
I picked this up because it's cool looking with the USA on the bell /
it's old but does play / it needs some minor adjusting which i've
allready started (octave key is out of adjust but it's just a little
bend of the key or some cork to remedy) / i will be doing this / down
by thumbrest found the number 3434 which is also on the back of the G#
key / the G# key functions in a different way than most saxes / i tried
to get this in a photo but don't know if it will translate / not sure
of the year of production / old vintage style case is old and worn but
functional all the same / even the little latch that holds the
compartment door for the mouthpiece and supplies is there / the
original (i think) short shank mouthpiece would be needed ithink / my
"try the horns out" mouthpiece was to big & i would have torecork
the neck to use it / ligature is not original / cool old piece/

KING ZEPHYR TENOR SAX VINTAGE
CIRCA 1968 - serial number 430329 / overall in really
good shape for a horn its age / finish is nice / i'd call it a
conservative 80% intact / all i've done to it is bend the octave key at
the neck back into straight position / the only other thing i will be
doing besides some pads and tweeking is to get the spring that
activates the body octave key to open - it's loose and not springing
like it should - also the neck cork is chipped &will need replacing
down the road / i took lot's of photos / the storyi got before checking
the date was that this horn had one owner and sheplayed the horn in
college from 1968 to 1971 / the horn was put away foryears and moved
around a lot / the case is a little musty but not to bad/ the engraving
on the bell is beautiful / all intact and playing but i wouldn'tgig
with it until replacing a few pads / actually, i probably could makeit
through a gig if i got the spring at the body octave key functioning

YAMAHA YTS-23 TENOR SAX
- just in / THIS IS A PRETTY GOOD LOOKING HORN / some finish wear
but overall not that bad / i would rate the finish about 6.5 to 7 of 10
/ the largest dent i see is shown in one of the pictures in the serial
number area / original case is a little rough but functional with all
hinges, latches and thehandle intact / FAIR PLAYING CONDITION / needs
some adjustment in the lowG thru D range / low Bb actually plays a
little easier than low D / i thinka pad or 2 and some adjustment are
the culprit in the mid section of thehorn / i've got so much to work on
than i'm offering this one as is beforethis work is done / after the
work this horn will be a bargain at $400 /right now until i get to it
i'm offering it at $245 / if i don't have timeto tweek i might take it
to someone and have it done because it's a yamahaand i would estimate
that farming it out will only run me about $50 to 75to get it tip

VINTAGE ELKHART ALTO SAX
MADE BY BUESCHER - THIS HORN IS ON MY NEWEST
CD "WHO WILL SAVE THIS WORLD" TRACKS #8) "I'VE GOT TO APPRECIATE WHAT
I'VE GOT" & TRACK #10) "MADE IN THE USA" ----- (LISTEN TO MP3
OF THIS SAX IN THE SONG "I'VE GOT TO APPRECIATE WHAT I'VE GOT" )
This
is a cool piece. I have a tenor more worn than this one I've
played profesionally for several years. This alto saxophone plays
great! Very happening old case too. Everything is in
place. This horn is playing from low Bb to high F! And I'm
not talking about having to honk the low notes! The neck cork is
chipped, but at the end closest to the octave key (see photo).
From the look and shiney finish I'd say it may have been refinished at
one point but I don't know this. The keys definately show the
most laquer wear. Very few dings on this horn. Laquer about
70% intact. That would be about 80% for body and 60% for keys and
neck. --- $400 ( horn in case pic - niceELK on the bell

CLEVELAND "H.N. WHITE" TENOR
SAXOPHONE - made by the H. N. White Co. of Cleveland, OH /
nice old tenor sax in good playing shape with a good case with all
latches/hinges/handle intact / this horn is playing down to low Bb (
LISTEN TO AN MP3 RECORDING OF THIS SAX 02/2003 ) / it's like the old
Elhart tenor i'm giggin with, ( it needs some adjusting and could even
use an overhaul if i was looking for perfection ) if it ain't broke,
don't fix it / basically, it's a better rock and roll sax right
now / it's probably sufficient for jazz / for classical it would need
some new pads and a nice re-seat tweeking(i guess) / sometimes you do
that type work end up with a horn that playsabout the same / $375
